NFPA

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) was founded in 1896. It is an international not-for-profit organisation whose prime function is to define and regulate safety standards.

The NFPA’s main objective is fire protection, but it also focuses on other building and environmental hazards.

It publishes more than 300 consensus codes and standards which are adopted and used throughout the world. In France, NFPA standards are mainly used by transnational groups, and also where there are no applicable French regulations (NFPA 409 for the protection of aircraft hangars, for example).

NFPA 11 – Standard for Low-, Medium-, and High-Expansion Foam

This standard covers the design, installation, operation, testing, and maintenance of low-, medium-, and high-expansion foam systems for fire protection.

(NFPA 1, 2021) Fire Code®

The Fire Code, 2021 (NFPA 1, 2021) is a code produced by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). This document provides the foundation for many state and city codes. The NFPA 1, 2021 combined with local jurisdiction amendments form the state codes. Adopting jurisdictions include Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Hawaii, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Texas, West Virginia, and Department of Defense.

(NFPA 101, 2024) Life Safety Code®

The Life Safety Code is the most widely used source for strategies to protect people based on building construction, protection, and occupancy features that minimize the effects of fire and related hazards. Unique in the field, it is the only document that covers life safety in both new and existing structures.

(NFPA 72, 2022) National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code®

NFPA 72 provides the latest safety provisions to meet society’s changing fire detection, signaling, and emergency communications demands. In addition to the core focus on fire alarm systems, the Code includes requirements for mass notification systems used for weather emergencies; terrorist events; biological, chemical, and nuclear emergencies; and other threats.

(NFPA 13, 2025) Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems (2025)

NFPA 13, Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems, provides the latest requirements for automatic sprinkler system design, installation, and testing to ensure that sprinkler systems are reliable and effective in controlling or extinguishing fires and for protecting lives and property.
